The Three Chiefs

 

The Three Chiefs concept come was inspired by the three Batswana Chiefs (Kgosi Bathoen of Bangwaketse included)  who went to seek protection from the Queen against Cecil Rhodes in 1895. So the three Botswana agates signify the three Chiefs and C shape band, the kgotla. The whole piece conveys the kgotla approach(dialogue means) that the chiefs upheld when seeking protection as appose to violence means of solving disputes. The Basket

Inspired by a basket used for winnowing grain after being processed by Bangwaketse (Batswana too). The shape is inspired by a slice of a Botswana agate with beautiful organic shapes. Design Process @ indigenous infuse jewellery - Project 1
